In the Beginning
by Bernice Bronson
Audience participation play. 6 actors, open stage. 50 minutes. $ 6.50
Where do the mountains come from? Why does the Sun shine by day and the Moon by night? How can you persuade an angry sun to come out again? The children in the audience help recreate these timeless myths in this joyful play about the beginning of the world. In the Beginning combines the structure of a carefully-written play with many opportunities for active, physical, individual involvement by the children. (For most meaningful results, we suggest limiting the audience to no more than 200.) And how enthusiastically they respond to the experience!
Production requirements are simple. You'll need minimal scenery and a few colorful light-weight props. Each of the six actors takes a number of parts (Sun, Moon, Sky Woman, Creator, Rooster, Tribe Leader, etc.) In the Beginning has the artful simplicity that makes it an ideal script for you to discover the excitement of audience participation.
